Horse Named Radiohead To Run In Kentucky Derby
[lastfm]Radiohead[/lastfm] may soon have their names etched in Kentucky Derby history, as one of the potential race winners shares his name with the group.
The three-year-old chestnut colt has been compared to Big Brown, the horse that almost won the elusive Triple Crown back in 2008.
Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. told the Miami Herald, “He’s a cool, happy, curious horse. He’s very proud of himself. He’s game, you know. He’s game for an idea.”
Radiohead is 20-1 with bookies to claim the race trophy and $2 million in prize money on May 1. However, the horse has never raced the one and a quarter mile length of the Kentucky Derby before.
“There’s no dirt racing in Europe, so you buy on pedigree and hope he can handle the dirt, and we’ve been pleasantly surprised,” owner Michael Ivarone said. “But he’s up against a lot of speed in this race.”
The Kentucky Derby, considered the greatest race in the world by many, is the premier event of the U.S. horse-racing calendar.
