[lastfm]Carlos Santana[/lastfm] is a singularly supreme musician. Singular in that when he plays just one signature note on his guitar, the listener immediately knows that is [lastfm]Santana[/lastfm]. In 2000, he took home an astonishing eight Grammys for his globally revered Supernatural album, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth.” Today, he celebrates the tenth anniversary of his crowning achievement with the 2-CD Supernatural: Legacy Edition (available now), remastered and ripe with previously unreleased musical jewels.
Sold Sacrifice: To date, the original edition of Supernatural has sold north of 26 million copies worldwide, and Santana has sold in excess of 90 million albums across the planet. The recently released double-disc Legacy Edition contains the original album remastered (personally supervised by Carlos) as well as 11 bonus tracks featuring previously unreleased outtakes and remixes, plus a fresh 24-page booklet sporting rare photographs and memorabilia.
The previously hidden treasures on disc two include 5 “didn’t make the cut” on the original album gems such as “Angel Love (Come for Me)”; “Ya Yo Me Cure”; a Santana band cover of the Cuban classic “Bacalao Con Pan”; a cover of Lighthouse’s 1971 radio favorite “One Fine Morning”, and a meticulous medley of Bob Marley & the Wailers’ exquisite “Exodus/Get Up Stand Up.”
Six more masterworks on the bonus disc include the previously unearthed “Rain Down On Me” featuring Dave Matthews and Carter Beauford; dance remixes of original Supernatural smashes “Maria Maria” and “Corazon Espinado” featuring Mexican rock icons Mana; an instrumental version of the No. 1 single “Smooth; a previously unheard vocals-free take of “The Calling Jam” featuring Eric Clapton, and “Olympic Festival,” previously available only on the 2000 Girlfight movie soundtrack.
Clearly, Carlos Santana’s legacy will be the heavenly sounds that emanate from his soulful instrument. But equally, he will be remembered for the humanity that pours from his heart and the grace in which he gives back to those underserved via his Milagro Foundation. A singularly supreme musician and man, Santana continues to walk the walk and talk the talk, spreading hope, healing, peace, light, love, and joy through his spirited music and uplifting message.
