[lastfm]Foo Fighter[/lastfm]‘s drummer Taylor Hawkins says that a new Foo Fighters album won’t be out until next year, despite the band having 15 new songs already written.
“[lastfm]Dave Grohl[/lastfm]‘s got 15 or so song ideas that are awesome and we’ve already demoed some of them twice even,” Hawkins told Spinner.com.
However, Hawkins says that is only the first step. “It’s a large process for us. It takes a long time to do it. We don’t just say, ‘OK, let’s go make a record and pop in the studio and record it just like that.’ There’s a lot of preproduction that goes into making a Foo Fighter record.”
Hawkins explained that the two also plan on wrapping up work with their side projects – Grohl’s Them Crooked Vultures and Hawkins’ Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders – before focusing on the follow up to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. The band put out a greatest hits album last year that included the new single “Wheels.”
“It’s definitely in the fetal stages,” Hawkins said of an new album.
Hawkins’ second solo record, Red Light Fever, with the Coattail Riders is out now.
