The [lastfm]Rolling Stones[/lastfm]‘ Exile on Main Street re-release has taken the top spot on the U.K. albums chart. The new collection – which features such bonus tracks as “Plundered My Soul,” “Dancing in the Light,” “Following the River” and “Pass the Wine” – is the Stones first number one hit in the country since 1994’s Voodoo Lounge.
“I knew it was a grower,” [lastfm]Keith Richards [/lastfm]said in a radio interview. “I just knew the thing was gonna take a while to digest, but it’s taken 40 years. We knew that digesting a double album was a bit of a chore and people get different takes on it.”
He added, “We weren’t expecting fantastic reviews to start with, but at the same time, we felt this is gonna creep up on them, this is gonna keep going.”
Exile first hit number one in the U.K. back in 1972.
