paul 01192010 White House Concert For Paul McCartney[lastfm]Paul McCartney [/lastfm]will be honored at a concert hosted by President Barack Obama in the East Room of the White House on June 2. The former [lastfm]Beatle[/lastfm] has been tapped as this year’s recipient of the U.S. Library of Congress’ Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the highest honor given for pop music.

The concert will feature a star-studded lineup including [lastfm]Faith Hill[/lastfm], [lastfm]Jack White[/lastfm], [lastfm]Elvis Costello[/lastfm], [lastfm]Emmylou Harris[/lastfm], [lastfm]Dave Grohl [/lastfm]and the [lastfm]Jonas Brothers[/lastfm]. Sir Paul is the third person to receive the Gershwin Award, which was created in 2007 and has been previously awarded to Stevie Wonder and [lastfm]Paul Simon[/lastfm].

PBS will broadcast the special, titled In Performance at the White House Celebrating the Music of Paul McCartney: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize, on July 28 at 8 PM Eastern Time.

Meanwhile, McCartney will continue his ongoing world tour this week with a pair of shows in Mexico City on May 27 and 28.
