The [lastfm]Jackson[/lastfm] family and the town of Gary, Indiana, are moving ahead on plans for a new museum dedicated to [lastfm]Michael Jackson[/lastfm].
In a recent press conference, the King of Pop’s father Joe Jackson and Gary mayor Rudy Clay confirmed the new project, which would include a hotel, golf course and performing arts center. The Michael Jackson Family Center would cost around $300 million and hopefully would bring about 750,000 tourists to the city each year.
“This is something that my family and Michael have always wanted. We’re bringing something back,” Jackson told reporters at the event.
Clay and Jackson explained that the initial funding for the project will come from private investors and donations. The museum will be constructed on a 300-acre lot donated by the city.
“This project will be the magnet that will draw people from all over the world,” Clay adds.
Project organizers say they expect to break ground as early as 2011.
