This week marked the release of [lastfm]John Mellencamp[/lastfm]‘s four-CD box set, On The Rural Route 7609. The box set includes 54 tracks, which chronicle all of Mellencamp’s hits throughout his four decade music career.
Each disc is meant to serve as a “freestanding album,” a note on Mellencamp’s website said. Out of the 54 tracks, 17 have never been released and several feature special guests reading Mellencamp’s lyrics. Guest readers include Academy Award winning actress Joanne Woodward and bestselling author Dr. Cornel West.
In addition to the four CDs, there is also a 72-page booklet, which will include a commentary for each track written by Mellencamp himself.
Rolling Stone is currently holding a contest for fans who would like to win an autographed copy of Mellencamp’s new box set. There are only five available and the contest will go on until June 30.
