[lastfm]Paul Simon[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Phil Collins[/lastfm] were honored at this week’s Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony. The icons appeared alongside 20-year-old country sensation [lastfm]Taylor Swift[/lastfm].
Simon was honored for his hit “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” He said of the tune, “I thought, ‘Hmm, that’s better than I usually write.’ I was completely surprised that I wrote it — it was completely unlike anything I had ever done before.”
Collins took home the Hall of Fame’s Johnny Mercer Award. Meanwhile, Swift was given the Hal David Starlight Award for up-and-coming songwriters.
This year’s inductees include [lastfm]Jackie DeShannon[/lastfm], [lastfm]Bob Marley[/lastfm], [lastfm]Laura Nyro[/lastfm], [lastfm]Johnny Mandel[/lastfm], and [lastfm]David Foster[/lastfm].
