[lastfm]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm] has set an unwelcome new benchmark. Her recent release Bionic has endured the biggest single-week drop in U.K. chart history.
After debuting at number one last week, the album has plummeted to number 29 on the charts. Bionic represents a significant drop from her 2006 release Back To Basics. That album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts, which moved 615,000 copies worldwide in the first week.
Critics have recently accused Aguilera of ripping off [lastfm]Lady Gaga[/lastfm], adopting a similarly outlandish fashion sense and admitting she is bisexual.
Being out of the spotlight for four years has has also taken a toll. Since starting her hiatus in 2006, a new wave of female pop stars, including [lastfm]Rihanna[/lastfm], [lastfm]Beyoncé[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Miley Cyrus[/lastfm], have conquered the charts.
Aguilera also recently made headlines for postponing her American tour until next year, citing a need for more rehearsal time.
