[lastfm]R.E.M[/lastfm].‘s [lastfm]Peter Buck[/lastfm] has confirmed that he will appear on the upcoming new album from the [lastfm]Decemberists[/lastfm]. The guitarist reportedly sat in on five recording sessions with the Oregon-based indie group, and photos of the sessions are available through R.E.M.’s official website.
The Decemberists’ new album is due out early next year and is currently being produced by [lastfm]Tucker Martine[/lastfm], who is also at the helm of R.E.M.’s forthcoming new release.
The Athens, Georgia, rockers have also made recent headlines for the induction of their track “Radio Free Europe” into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. R.E.M. join a new class of inductees including [lastfm]Willie Nelson[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Tupac Shakur[/lastfm].
In an official statement, the National Recording Registry says “Radio Free Europe” set “the pattern for later indie rock releases by breaking through on college radio in the face of mainstream radio’s general indifference.”
