steviewonder 092409 Stevie Wonder Hit Covered By Timberlakes Esmée Denters[lastfm]Stevie Wonder[/lastfm] had one of his hits covered as part of Billboard.com’s Mashup Monday series. Dutch singer [lastfm]Esmée Denters[/lastfm] gave a simple performance of Wonder’s 1977 hit single “As,” singing with just an acoustic guitar accompaniment.

The 21-year-old Denters, who is fluent in both English and Dutch, started her rise to fame in part as a result of a series of appearances on YouTube. She has been signed to [lastfm]Justin Timberlake[/lastfm]‘s new Tennman Records.

“As” reached number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released as a single in 1977. It first appeared on Wonder’s classic album Songs In The Key Of Life, which also included such iconic songs as “Sir Duke,” “Isn’t She Lovely?” and “I Wish.”

A cover of “As” was performed by [lastfm]Mary J. Blige[/lastfm] and [lastfm]George Michael[/lastfm] for his 1998 greatest hits album, Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael.
