[lastfm]Eddie Van Halen[/lastfm]‘s wife/spokesperson Janie is speaking out against persistent rumors that a new [lastfm]Van Halen[/lastfm] record is in the works. Though speculation about new music was sparked when Ticketmaster CEO Irving Azoff recently stated that the group may hit the road this year, Janie claims the band has no plans for a new album.
“What is going around is exactly that, rumors. I don’t have any updates at this time,” she said in an official statement to Rolling Stone.
Van Halen has been out of commission for nearly a year after receiving surgery to repair multiple damages to his left hand. Last fall, however, the guitar legend told Rolling Stone that he has a lot of new music up his sleeve.
“I’ve got tons of music written, such a variety of stuff,” he said. “The essence of me is obviously there, and those drums, they’re always recognizable. But people expect a certain thing from Van Halen, and this isn’t exactly bang-your-head-against-the-wall stuff.”
The “Jump” hitmaker was also reportedly waiting for his son/bassist Wolfgang to graduate from high school before heading into the studio to cut a new record.
