[lastfm]The Kinks’ [/lastfm]1976 album Schoolboys in Disgrace will reportedly be adapted into a feature length film.
The offering will be directed by comic [lastfm]Bobcat Goldthwait [/lastfm](Police Academy, Shakes the Clown, World’s Greatest Dad) and produced by Kinks frontman [lastfm]Ray Davies[/lastfm]. The musical will showcase cast re-recordings of the album’s songs, with a soundtrack slated for release in conjunction with the film.
Goldthwait tells the Hollywood Reporter, it will be “a realistic high school musical for all the kids who hate sugary, sweet, unrealistic high-school musicals.”
He added: “It’s a story that any kid who has felt that they are not being treated fairly can relate to, all set to some of the greatest rock songs you’ll ever hear. It’s the genesis story of a supervillain set to music. It’s the story of the world’s most charming criminal.”
