[lastfm]Eddie Vedder[/lastfm] caused quite a stir earlier this week when he told fans in Lisbon, Portugal, that they were attending [lastfm]Pearl Jam[/lastfm]‘s last show for an indefinite period of time.
During the show, Vedder spoke to the crowd in Portuguese saying, “Thank you for coming to our last show. Not our last ever, but our last in a long time.”
The comments spurred a wave of rumors across the web, with many speculating that the hard touring Seattle band may go on hiatus. A spokesperson from the band cleared things up, however, with an official statement to the Seattle Weekly.
“He says that at the end of all tours, because the tour has ended. The remark may have gotten a little lost in translation,” says the band’s rep.
With the performance at Lisbon’s Optimus Alive Festival, Pearl Jam capped off an extended European tour behind their 2009 release Backspacer. The tour included stops in the U.K., the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, France, Belgium and Italy.
