Phil Collins Covers 60s Soul On New Album
This fall, [lastfm]Phil Collins [/lastfm]will make a return to the Motown sounds that influenced his youth with a new album, Going Back. The offering is set to hit stores on September 28.
Going Back will reportedly feature many top soul hits from the 1960s, including “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “A Groovy Kind Of Love,” “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “True Colours.”
“The ’60s were without doubt a pinnacle of the songwriting, producing and performing art,” Collins comments in the album’s liner notes.
“My aim in finally making this record was to see if it was possible for me to recapture the sound and the feelings I got from listening to these songs the first time around. I’ve always loved covering other people’s songs, and this collection is something I’ve been burning to do,” he adds.
The new album will be Collins’ first since 2002’s Testify, which debuted at number 30 on the Billboard charts.
