A free[lastfm] Prince [/lastfm]CD that was included with the July 10 issue of the Daily Mirror boosted sales of the newspaper by 334,000, compared to sales from the previous week, according to the paper’s publisher.
The Daily Record, the Mirror‘s sister publication based in Scotland, saw its sales jump by an estimated 45,000 thanks to their distribution of Prince’s new 20Ten album.
“We are delighted with the huge response to the Prince promotion which has proved to be a successful sampling opportunity for both titles,” Trinity Mirror Nationals managing editor Mark Hollinshead said in a statement. “This was also a great example of our editorial and commercial teams working closely together which resulted in the most effective way for Prince to reach his legion of U.K. fans.”
Prince recently told the Daily Mirror that he thought the Internet was “completely over,” and that he no longer wishes to release music through services such as iTunes.
