Angry [lastfm]John Lennon[/lastfm] fans took to Twitter to protest [lastfm]Lady Gaga[/lastfm] playing Lennon’s signature white Steinway piano earlier this week.
In the photograph, which was posted on Twitter by Lennon’s son Sean, Gaga is seated at the piano in a bodysuit and thigh-high stockings. The photograph was taken at the New York City penthouse that [lastfm]Yoko Ono[/lastfm], Lennon’s widow, shared with him and still owns.
Beatles fans reacted to the photo on Twitter, with responses including “WHY WOULD YOU LET LADY GAGA PLAY ON JOHN’S PIANO? I’m disappointed.”
Lennon, who eventually removed the photographs from his Twitter page, replied: “Firstly, he gave that piano to my mother for her birthday, it is hers, secondly, he was not uptight the way you seem to be.”
He also noted: “Come on, lighten up . . . life’s too short, there’re enough real problems in the world . . .”
Lady Gaga, who is a classically-trained pianist, has openly declared her admiration of Lennon and his music in the past. She previously performed his hit song “Imagine.”
