A new film chronicling the life of late [lastfm]Grateful Dead[/lastfm] leader [lastfm]Jerry Garcia[/lastfm] is heading to the big screen.
Amir Bar-Lev, who directed the documentary The Tillman Story, has been chosen to direct the film. According to reports, the script will center on Garcia’s life before he joined the Grateful Dead.
The film will be based on [lastfm]Robert Greenfield’s [/lastfm]Dark Star: An Oral Biography on Jerry Garcia.
“I don’t think Jerry is easily understood,” Greenfield told Rolling Stone. “I think he’s a complex human being. After a certain point, everyone had their own vision of Jerry. This film is about who he really was before people made him what they wanted him to be.”
