Condoleezza Rice and [lastfm]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm] joined forces earlier this week to play a duet at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia.
At the performance – which is already being dubbed The Diva and The Diplomat – concertgoers were treated to the [lastfm]Burt Bacharach[/lastfm]-penned “I Say a Little Prayer” featuring Rice (who is a classically-trained pianist) on the piano and Franklin singing. The Philadelphia Orchestra backed the duo, who concluded with the song “My Country Tis of Thee.”
Franklin quipped about Rice, “We do have some things in common, but I am a democrat forever, let me be very clear about that, alright?”
Rice replied, “Well, we’re all Americans and President Obama is my president as well.”
The gala concert raised $582,000 in funds for inner city youth programs and education initiatives.
