[lastfm]Steven Tyler [/lastfm]confirmed this week that he is in talks to join American Idol as a judge for its next season. The [lastfm]Aerosmith[/lastfm] frontman’s name was linked to the job shortly after [lastfm]Ellen DeGeneres[/lastfm] confirmed that she was leaving the show last month.
During a radio interview earlier this week, Tyler said that nothing is official, but he has been in contact with the network and he knows how he’d approach the gig.
“This beautiful girl from Fox came up to me and made an offer,” he said. “I honored her offer . . . and it’s just a work in progress. They mentioned it and I listened, and we’re on tour, so I gotta give it some time.”
He added, “I would be honest to the ones that think they have it, and I would be truthful in the sense that if, to those that have it, they don’t have it yet enough. And I would tell them exactly why, as I see it.”
And though Tyler would not make a definitive statement over the airwaves, he was more transparent while speaking TMZ after one of Aerosmith’s shows last week.
“I’m probably going to be a judge on American Idol,” he said. “I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”
