[lastfm]John Mellencamp[/lastfm] will be among the recipients of this year’s Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The rock icon will accept the award at this year’s AMA Honors & Awards event, which is set to take place on September 9 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
Mellencamp joins an esteemed group of country and Americana artists set to be honored with the award including [lastfm]Wanda Jackson[/lastfm], [lastfm]Luke Lewis[/lastfm], [lastfm]Greg Leisz[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Brian Ahern[/lastfm]. The “Jack and Diane” hitmaker is being honored specifically for his contribution as a songwriter.
The event will be hosted by Nashville legend [lastfm]Jim Lauderdale[/lastfm] and will feature a house band land by veteran session player, songwriter and tour player [lastfm]Buddy Miller[/lastfm].
Mellencamp’s newest album, No Better Than This, is due out on August 17. Much of the album was recorded in legendary spaces including Sun Studios in Memphis and Brunswick Sound in Dallas.
