[lastfm]Dionne Warwick [/lastfm]has reportedly stepped up to fill in for [lastfm]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm] at an upcoming birthday party for New York Representative Charles Rangel. Franklin backed out of the date on doctor’s orders after falling down and breaking several ribs last week.
In addition to her canceled appearance at the birthday party/fundraiser, Franklin also canceled two scheduled appearances in New York. The soul legend was set to give two free performances in Brooklyn parks but had to cancel.
“I was very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot-long hot dog at Coney Island,” Franklin told the Detroit Free Press. “Hopefully, I will get it before the end of August.”
Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz also commented on the cancellation, saying, “All of Brooklyn wishes Aretha Franklin a speedy recovery,” and added that he hoped that Franklin could return “when she’s feeling better.”
