[lastfm]Linkin Park[/lastfm] have announced that a video for their new single “The Catalyst” will premiere on August 26. The video will be shown on MTV, VH1, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits and MTV Tr3s, and will be broadcast online at both MTV.com and VH1.com. The video is directed by bandmember [lastfm]Joe Hahn[/lastfm], who explained the concept behind the video to MTV.
“When coming up with the idea of the visual piece to accompany the song, I thought of the end,” he said. “What would it look like and feel like if someone pushed the button to decide our fate?”
Exclusive shots and clips will also be made available online and through the channels mentioned above in the days leading up to the video’s premiere. The band will also be releasing free iPhone and Android apps to mark the occasion.
“The Catalyst” debuted at number one on the Billboard Rock Songs chart on August 2.
The band’s upcoming album, A Thousand Suns, is slated for release on September 14 and features production by [lastfm]U2[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Johnny Cash[/lastfm] producer [lastfm]Rick Rubin[/lastfm], as well as Linkin Park vocalist [lastfm]Mike Shinoda[/lastfm].
