pinkfloyd2 Pink Floyd Albums No Longer Online

All of [lastfm]Pink Floyd[/lastfm]‘s albums after Dark Side of the Moon have been unavailable at digital stores since June 30. The albums were pulled after Pink Floyd failed to negotiate a new contract with EMI.

The current contract for that portion of their catalog from 1975 to the present expired on June 30. The former bandmembers are currently looking into a new contract after a long legal battle in which they successfully stopped EMI from selling individual album tracks or remastered tracks as ringtones.

Should the members of Pink Floyd fail to sign a new contract with EMI, or another distributor, their later albums, including The Wall, Animals and Wish You Were Here, could become collector’s items. However, the albums The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967) through Dark Side of the Moon (1973) remain available on CD and digitally, as they were negotiated under a separate contract.

Other artists that have defected from EMI due to digital download disputes include [lastfm]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] and[lastfm]Radiohead[/lastfm].
