A hacker made their way into [lastfm]Guns N’ Roses[/lastfm] frontman [lastfm]Axl Rose[/lastfm]‘s Twitter account over the week, posting a falsified report that the metal group was putting their tour on hold.

A Sunday night tweet from Rose read” “All upcoming Guns N’ Roses dates are officially canceled. Please contact your place of purchase for any refunds.”

Festival reps were baffled and organizers were “looking into” the comments as soon as they were posted, Sky News reported. In the end, however, the cancellation was deemed a hoax, although no one is sure about who’s to blame.

Rose hasn’t been very active on the social-networking site in recent months, and this particular tweet was posted via mobile web as opposed to his usual method of tweeting by iPhone. Using the British spelling of “canceled” also helped tip off some sleuths that the message might have been a hoax.

Guns N’ Roses are expected to perform this fall at London’s O2 Arena, Birmingham’s LG Arena and Manchester’s MEN Arena.
