Max Weinberg, coming to town for a show at the Guthrie October 25th, recently revealed the reason he left The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien – heart trouble. We’re glad you’re feeling well enough to play again, Max, and can’t wait for Conan to come back to TV November 8th!
[lastfm]Max Weinberg [/lastfm]recently revealed that he did not stay on as musical director for [lastfm]Conan O’Brien [/lastfm]due to heart trouble. The [lastfm]E Street Band [/lastfm]drummer said that he had life-saving open heart surgery just two weeks after the end of O’Brien’s show.
“On Feb. 8, I came to the end of a 26-year watchful, waiting odyssey that culminated in 12 hours of massively invasive open heart surgery,” the 59-year-old told Fancast.com in an interview. “Two years ago, it became life-threatening and I had to do something about it sooner or later.”
Weinberg says the operation played a part in his decision not to join the Conan O’Brien Tonight Show crew in Los Angeles and to instead remain home in New Jersey.
He adds, “When I say it was life-changing – I’ve always been a person who smelled the roses, but everything looks a little brighter. Everything looks a little bit more manageable. Nothing is really that big a deal to me anymore. I’ve never felt better.”
