Corgan lays it down on Pavement.
Billy Corgan has lashed out against indie rock icons Pavement in a series of recent Twitter updates. While announcing the Smashing Pumpkin‘s upcoming appearance at Brazil’s Planeta Terra Festival next week, Corgan said they will share the bill with Pavement and likened the experience to a funeral.
“Just found out SP is playing with Pavement in Brazil. It’s gonna be 1 of those New Orleans type funerals . . . I say that because they represent the death of the alternative dream, and we follow with the affirmation of life part,” he writes.
“Funny how those who pointed the big finger of ‘sell out’ are the biggest offenders now . . . yawn. They have no love . . . by the way, we’ll be the band up there playing NEW songs because we have the love xx,” Corgan added over a span of ten minutes.
Pavement reformed in September for a series of shows including an extended run at New York City’s Central Park Summer Stage. The band received some backlash for initially announcing the event as a one-night-only engagement and then added three more shows after the first show sold out.
