Phil Collins Considered Suicide After Divorce
Say it ain’t so Phil!
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Phil Collins[/lastfm] has revealed that he had thoughts of suicide in the past but spared his own life for the sake of his children. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the former Genesis rocker says he went into a deep depression after his third divorce.
“A comedian who committed suicide in the Sixties left a note saying, ‘Too many things went wrong too often.’ I often think about that,” Collins says. “I wouldn’t blow my head off, I’d overdose or do something that didn’t hurt. But I wouldn’t do that to the children.”
And though Collins just returned with Going Back, a new album of classic soul covers, he says he has often thought of retiring from the music business.
“I sometimes think I’m going to write this Phil Collins character out of the story,” he adds. “Phil Collins will just disappear or be murdered in some hotel bedroom, and people will say, ‘What happened to Phil?’ And the answer will be, ‘He got murdered, but, yeah, anyway, let’s carry on.’ That kind of thing.”
