George W. Bush Confused U2’s Bono With Sonny Bono
Oops on Bush’s part! Somehow I don’t see [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bono[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cher[/lastfm] as a couple anytime soon…
Former President George W. Bush is making headlines this week for revealing the details of an encounter he had while in office. In his new memoir Decision Points, Bush admits that he once confused [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]U2[/lastfm] frontman Bono with 1970s singer-turned-U.S. Congressman [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sonny Bono[/lastfm].
“I was skeptical of celebrities who seemed to adopt the cause of the moment as a way to advance their careers,” Bush writes, adding that the Irishman soon proved he was interested in more that publicity.
“He knew our budgets, understood the facts, and had well informed views about the challenges in Africa,” Bush says. He adds that Bono brought him “a thoughtful gift – an old Irish Bible.”
When later asked by advisors if he knew who the iconic rocker was, Mr. Bush admits that he thought Bono was the man who “used to be married to Cher.”
