johnlennon1 John Lennon Documentary Special Airs On PBS

LennoNYC airs Monday night. Don’t miss it!

[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]John Lennon[/lastfm] was featured in a new PBS documentary on Monday night. The special, called LennoNYC, captures the time Lennon spent in New York City from 1971 to the horrifying day he was murdered in 1980.

Several famous faces are shown in the film including artist Andy Warhol, poet Allen Ginsberg as he hangs out with Lennon and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Yoko Ono[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Elton John[/lastfm].

“The film is an attempt to look at his post-Beatles life,” director Michael Epstein said during an interview with the BBC. “New York meant freedom for John. It was an opportunity for him to be just John Lennon.”

LennoNYC expresses the love Lennon had for the city and even shows the man himself saying: “People occasionally ask for an autograph or just want to shake hands, which is the coolest. I’m just known enough to keep my ego floating, but unknown enough to get around, which is nice.”
