What a great name for an award…can’t disagree with NME on this one.
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Dave Grohl[/lastfm] has been named this year’s “Godlike Genius” by NME for their annual Shockwave Awards. According to NME editor Krissi Murison, the award winner must “have an unparalleled legacy and a decade-spanning career, but also still be meaningful to young bands and music fans today.”
After hearing the news, Grohl spoke with NME saying that, while he is flattered, he doesn’t quite agree with the impressive label.
“I don’t think I’m godlike or a genius. It’s really flattering. It’s a nice thing to be acknowledged for doing something that you love to do, but in truth I don’t consider it a body of work because I don’t consider it work, I just consider it this incredible luxury that I get to play music and travel the world and feed my kids,” he says.
“It’s pretty great. Awards and lists can get sort of silly sometimes but I’m very appreciative of this. It’s really cool!”
