On last night’s episode of Glee, entitled Sexy, when the Dalton Academy Warblers‘ lead dude Blaine (played by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Darren Criss[/lastfm]) wanted to test out the all-male group’s sex appeal on a female audience, he chose the Neon Trees smash Animal. He asked the girls in the audience, “Are we scream worthy? Do we make your knees turn to jelly?”
As with the majority of the tunes on Glee, the “sexiness” of the performance doesn’t quite match the raw quality of the original, but watching Criss as he performed with Chris Colfer’s Kurt, I couldn’t help but notice that he bears a striking resemblance to Neon Trees frontman Tyler Glenn. Unlike bands such as [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kings of Leon[/lastfm] and the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gorillaz[/lastfm], who do NOT want the Glee kids coming anywhere near the tune, Glenn and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Neon Trees[/lastfm] embraced the idea of having Animal featured on an episode of the popular show. Prior to the episode’s airing, Glenn told PopEater.com:
We think ‘Glee’ is hilarious, gives an important focus back to the arts in school, and in an ever changing musical industry, promotes music in an interesting way. We’re happy they love ‘Animal’ and are looking forward to seeing how they incorporate it into the story.
And then last night after the show aired, Glenn put out his quick review on Twitter:
Take a look at the Glee version and the Neon Trees version and let us know what you think!Vodpod videos no longer available.
On a related note, Criss announced on Live With Regis & Kelly on Monday that the fictional Dalton Academy Warblers would be releasing their own CD in April, including songs that they have performed on the show as well as a few additional tunes.
