At 39 years old, no one outside of Sugar Shane Mosley’s camp gave him much of a chance. The oddsmakers in Vegas had Manny Pacquiao at an 8-1 favorite, and it turns out even that was being generous: PacMan dominated the fight from top to bottom and aside from a Pacquiao trip-and-fall that was mistakenly ruled a knockdown, the end result was never in doubt.
There were long stretches of inaction by the fighters, drawing many boos from people in the capacity crowd and likely from the pay-per-view audience at home. However, for those who did pay to attend the fight and tune in at home, there was something – er, someone – worth paying to see that wasn’t expected: Shane Mosley’s girlfriend Bella Gonzalez.
While Pacquiao was putting on a clinic at his expense, Shane Mosley’s girlfriend Bella Gonzalez got a lot of love from fight producers with lots of camera time on the Showtime broadcast. She was initally shown just sitting in her seat looking pretty. As the fight went on, her cheerleading increased, and she quickly became a trending topic on Facebook, Google, and Twitter.
In the end, it wasn’t enough to motivate Sugar Shane to an improbable comeback. At least for the viewing audience at home, the $50+ for pay-per-view, it wasn’t a total loss. Thanks, Bella.
