Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Jacket Up For Auction
A music memorabilia auction being held in Beverly Hills later this month will offer collectors a chance to bid on the classic red and black jacket that [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Jackson [/lastfm]wore on the set of his groundbreaking 1983 “Thriller” video. Costume designers [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dennis Tompkins [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Bush [/lastfm]presented Jackson with the jacket after the filming, and he subsequently used it to help design other jackets to be used as a reference for his “Thriller” tour wardrobe.
Also up for bidding is a wig that Jackson wore for his “This Is It” London news conference that took place mere months before he passed away in 1999. Items belonging to [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kurt Cobain [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Janis Joplin [/lastfm]among others will also be available for purchase.
A portion of the proceeds brought in by the jacket will go to the nature preserve that houses two of Jackson’s Bengal tigers.
