1991-97:

  • CAKE began their musical career in Sacramento in 1991.
  • In 1993, Cake self-released its début single, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Lifestyle”. The track hit number 31 on the US Modern Rock Tracks.
  • CAKE releases their début album, Motorcade of Generosity, in February of 1994 with “Rock ‘N Roll Lifestyle” used in the closing credits of an episode of the MTV cartoon Daria.
  • The band signs to Capricorn Records.
  • After signing to Capricorn Records, in late 1996 the band releases the album that puts them on the map–Fashion Nugget.
  • Fashion Nugget goes platinum and includes songs like “The Distance,” “Nugget,” and “Stickshifts and Safetybelts.” These songs were licensed in many films and commercials.

1998-99:

  • In October of 1998, Cake releases their third album Prolonging The Magic to critical acclaim.
  • Prolonging The Magic received a Parental Advisory sticker for the title of the song “Satan Is My Motor.” On “safe” albums, the song was changed to “Motor.”
  • The album was certified platinum and “Never There” became a huge radio hit.

2000-01:

  • CAKE signs to major label, Columbia, and releases their fourth album called Comfort Eagle in July of 2001.
  • Radio hit “Short Skirt, Long Jacket” reaches #7 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks.
  • [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay-Z[/lastfm] later samples “Arco Arena” from Comfort Eagle on his song “Guns & Roses.”

2002-10:

  • In 2002, CAKE headlines the Unlimited Sunshine Tour which included fellow musicians like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Modest Mouse[/lastfm] and the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Flaming Lips[/lastfm] and in 2003 with [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cheap Trick[/lastfm].
  • Cake releases their fifth album (and their second on Columbia Records) called Pressure Chief in 2004.
  • “Wheels” and “No Phone” were the most popular single off the album produced by the band in a Sacramento converted house.

2011:

  • About six years after their last album release, CAKE puts out their highly-anticipated album Showroom of Compassion which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 100.
