JACK Artist Spotlight: Prince
Born and raised in the Twin Cities, Prince has produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles. Rolling Stone also placed him as #27 for the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Prince is also known for the Love Symbol: a combination of the symbols for male and female.
In 1984, Prince wrote and starred in the Oscar winning movie, “Purple Rain.” The movie featured Prince and his band, The Revolution. Last week The Revolution reunited at First Avenue. This was the first time in 25 years that the band had performed at the legendary night club. The band reunited for a Heart Association benefit organized by drummer Bobby Z. after he suffered a heart attack in 2011. The concert was called “A Benefit 2 Celebrate Life.” Prince did not perform or appear at First Avenue that night but has supported Bobby Z. in his recovery efforts.
