Santana was founded in 1967 in San Francisco. It was originally called the Carlos Santana Blues Band. They got a lot of attention at Woodstock in 1969. Santana’s first debut album came out shortly after their performance at Woodstock. The album peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 pop chart. The song “Evil Ways” was also a top 10 single in the US. Carlos Santana learned to play the violin when he was five and the guitar when he was eight. When Carlos was in San Francisco he was able to see his idols. Some of his early influences include: B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix.
