After years of lending her voice to VH1 Divas telecast, Whitney Houston will be honored on the 2012 installment of the show, which is set to air live in December.
According to VH1’s Turner blog, the show will take place in Los Angeles and will honor Houston’s “musical legacy.” Rickey Minor, who served as Houston’s musical director, will be the musical director for the show.
“We all felt that if any show could pay tribute to Whitney’s music, it would be Divas,” VH1 president Tom Calderone told Billboard. “December felt like enough time where it wouldn’t be sad anymore, you’d want to celebrate her music.”
This is not the first time Houston will be associated with the franchise. Since its 1998 debut, Houston appeared on Divas three times (1999, 2002, 2003). Each year, Divas brings together powerful female voices and performers for a celebration of music.
