Even with Paul McCartney‘s 70th birthday approaching next month the ex-Beatles bassist isn’t slowing down one bit. Sir Paul performed in front of 200,000 people at Mexico City’s historic central square, The Zolcalo, for the final performance of his Latin American tour.

During the performance Paul was joined on stage by a traditional Mexican mariachi band to sing the Beatles’ hit “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” The crowd went crazy for the performance. The concert, which was free, was sponsored by the Mexico City mayor’s office. People camped out overnight in anticipation to see the former mop-topper.

“It was quite emotional and exciting that people who might not be able to afford to come to our shows could come to this. It was like Beatlemania all over again,” said McCartney according to Hello Magazine.

“When you visit places that you don’t often come to, like South America, they’ve been saving up the excitement so when you get there they let it all go,” he went on to say.

McCartney performed two nights before the free event for 70,000 people at Azteca stadium.
