JACK FM’s Artist Spotlight is on Pat Benatar whom will be at the Minnesota State Fair on Saturday, September 1st with Journey and Loverboy.  To purchase tickets and find out more visit the event calendar!  So this is now your chance to learn something new about her!

She was born January 10th, 1953 in Green Point, Brooklyn, New York.  Benatar has won four Grammys.  Some of her hit songs from the 80′s are “Love Is a Battlefield”, “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, and “We Belong.”  She was one of the most played artists when MTV first started broadcasting.

Benatar got her start in theater and began voice lessons.  She sung her first solo at age eight.  In high school, she was a part of musical theater.  Her early beginnings were only in classical music and theater.  She eventually became a bank teller in Virginia and quit the job to pursue her singing career after being inspired by a Liza Minnelli concert she had seen.  Benetar then got a position as a singing waitress at a night club called The Roaring Twenties.

She got signed to Chrysalis Records.  Then Benetar recorded her first album, In the Heat of the Night in June and July 1979.  She won four Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock Performance from 1980-1983 and received many other Grammy Award nominations.  She had a song, “We Belong”, in the movie Talledega Nights.
