Alanis Morissette On Balancing Work And Family: Bring Them On Tour
Alanis Morissette is a new mom with a new album on the way. Currently, she’s back in the spotlight and learning the balance between work and family. In an interview with Fresh 102.7/New York, Alanis laid out her plans to pack the family into a tour bus when she hits the road.
“Basically, instead of jumping in the car and having a tequila shot and partying the whole way home after a show I just jump in the car. I kick right into wife and mommy and family mode, which is a little jarring but it’s pretty awesome,” she said.
Alanis went on to say that in addition to her touring lifestyle, she hopes her 17-month-old son Ever learns from her music. While she joked that her hit “You Oughta Know” is a good song to shape him when he’s older she confessed that there are a few songs she hopes he takes to heart.
“There’s a song called ‘You Owe Me Nothing In Return’ which is a major love song and some of the love songs for his dad, [like] a song called ‘Til You,’” she said.
The singer-songwriter confessed that in addition to experiencing the touring lifestyle firsthand, her son witnesses her songwriting talents.
“I make up songs. I write songs for him on the spot so my husband is always tickled and charmed by that,” she said. “Except some of the lyrics are a little odd.”
Part of Morissette’s success is how people respond to her music. She has frequently heard stories from those who relate to her music after witnessing a difficult experience firsthand, like divorce.
“I went through some version of it and they personalized it, which is great,” she said. “The song is for me when I write it but once I share it with the world it’s not really mine anymore.”
Alanis Morissette’s seventh studio album Havoc and Bright Lights will be released August 28. Track listing below.
