Face paint, haard rock and throwback hip-hop? The Insane Clown Posse’s 13th Annual Gathering of The Juggalos festival has been announced and includes a diverse, if unlikely, collection of rock and rap groups alongside the festival’s subversive regulars. P.O.D. and Static X will be performing along side The Game and a grab bag of bizarre rapper reunions the Cave-In-Rock, Illinois event.
While Game gives the festival a sense of the current rap generation, Insane Clown Posse member Violent J says the reunions and throwbacks were the most fun to book.
“We sat around at the conference table and we think what will be awesome; who would we like to see?” Violent J told CBS Local. “Sometimes we don’t hit the nail on the head or sometimes we book someone that the Juggalos might not necessarily want to see. But this is an incredible line-up. This is not a marketing tactic. It’s just sitting around and saying, ‘You know what would be dope? It would be dope if we had George Clinton, Raekwon, Game, the Fat Boys and the Geto Boys on the same stage.”
Scarface, Bushwilck Bill and Willie D will once again share the stage after a long hiatus. It will be the first show for the group in over a decade.
“Getting the Geto Boys, this is a dream for us,” Violent J said. “Of course, Willie D was locked up for a while there. But once we started talking to Willie about doing a guest appearance on our new album [The Mighty Death Pop!], we started kicking around the idea of getting Face and Bill on our record as well. So we reached out to all three of the Geto Boys and they did it.”
While the Fat Boys have faded from the spotlight, for the Juggalos, they seemed to be an easy match.
“We heard from somewhere that the Fat Boys were doing shows,” J said. “The minute we heard that we made the call. The fact that the Human Beatbox passed away there are still two Fat Boys left. And those living members (Prince Markie Dee and Kool Rock-Ski) are every bit of the Fat Boys to me.”
The Gathering of the Juggalos is an event created by Psychopathic Records and the Insane Clown Posse. Attended by “wicked clown” fans wearing face paint, the days long event hosts a mix of wrestling events and exhibitions along with a variety of musical performances and parties.
Other performers this year include P.O.D., Kottonmouth Kings, Static X, Fear Factory, DMX, Master P, Warren G, Biz Markie, Mac 10 and more. See the entire list here.
