For Jane’s Addiction fans who couldn’t make it to the lush drama that was the band’s recent Theatre of the Escapists tour, there’s no need to panic – the rockers aren’t going anywhere, not even a hiatus. Guitarist Dave Navarro said the group’s in it for the long haul, fueled in part by their respective side projects and retained independence.
“We’re looking forward to just making another record and we’re kind of in this for the long haul,” Navarro said in an interview with KROQ’s Kevin & Bean in Los Angeles. “Back in the old days, we didn’t really have time to take on other projects. And now technology and the world is such that it allows us to basically do whatever we want. It’s kind of an amazing time.”
Navarro himself said that he’s working on some solo projects, including a possible “self-indulgent solo guitar-player record.”
“I want to work on a couple of different records and my tastes vary so much I figured I could go with two very, complete different genres, so that’s something I’ve mapped out for sure,” said Navarro, laughing when host Bean suggests he’s doing an “experimental jazz” record. He firmly denies it. “I still love songwriting and songs and storytelling. So, one’s going to be songs and the other’s going to be just guitar music.”
“Definitely should not be released,” said Navarro, agreeing when Bean jokes that the guitar music album shouldn’t be released. “But I’m going to make it available anyway.”
