For the last three years, Abbey Road has been the top-selling vinyl album, so clearly there’s still an audience interested in buying Beatles records in their original format. Or at least that’s the thought behind a new 16-LP box set comprised of every Beatles album, the Magical Mystery Tour soundtrack and Past Masters rarities collections.
The box set, all in remastered 180-gram vinyl, will be released November 13th for a whopping $400, reports Ultimate Classic Rock.
Just three years ago, the Beatles’ entire catalog was remastered and released on CD and digital formats. However, there’s reason to believe listeners do want these albums on remastered vinyl, not just the scratched-up records they have in crates or find at garage sales. Vinyl records have been on an upward trend over the last several years, thanks in part to Record Store Day, celebrated annually at “mom and pop” record stores on April 22.
A press release promises “authentic, jaw-dropping sound guaranteed to rival the original LPs.” For that price, we’d expect so.
