All the Rolling Stones rumors have finally spawned new music. The band’s latest single, “Doom and Gloom,” was released Thursday morning to radio and iTunes.
“Doom and Gloom” is one of two new songs (along with “One More Shot”) on the Stones’ upcoming Grrr! greatest hits compilation, out November 13th. The new tracks were recorded during the band’s four-day recording session with longtime producer Don Was last month in France. Watch the song’s innovative lyric video below.
Jagger mentioned his impressions of the track before its release, noting that its title may be misleading.
Our new single is released tomorrow. It's called Doom & Gloom, though it's a really raunchy rocker you can dance to & not gloomy at all!

Indeed, the song is a raunchy rocker, seemingly inspired by current events – more specifically, Jagger’s distaste for them. His solution for all that “Doom and Gloom” seems to be a dance with what we presume to be a gorgeous woman. He specifically alludes to America’s War in Iraq, fracking and the energy crisis, and the current 99 percent vs. one percent class war.
Still, all this lyrical heaviness is backed by brief bursts of riffs from Keith Richards and steady, strong beat from drummer Charlie Watts. Though the track’s production feels distinctly modern, the song itself sounds a little like 1980s-’90s Stones.
