What Was The Worst Band Of The ’90s?
According to a totally unscientific and semi-unbelievable reader’s poll conducted by Rolling Stone, the worst band of the ’90s was deemed by readers as Creed. You know, that one band with slimey rock superstar Scott Stapp.
OK, so that’s totally on the money, but some of the other bands seem like a stretch in terms of worst. Nirvana came in at #10, while Bush was standing strong at #7. Nickbelback came in second place at #2 and college-friendly jam band Dave Matthews Band came in at #10. Two pop groups–Ace of Base and Hanson rounded out the mostly rock/adult contemporary list that included Spin Doctors, Hootie and The Blowfish, and Limp Bizkit.
Regardless of who else made the list, Rolling Stone said that no one even came close to beating Creed in this poll.
“This is a band so hated that their own fans sued them after a famously bad show in Chicago in 2003. Scott Stapp is so despised that when a video surfaced of him getting a blowjob next to KidRock, Kid Rock said he was mainly embarrassed people learned he was hanging out with Scott Stapp. Creed is basically as popular as Alter Bridge right now.”
Tomorrow, we’re going to make you a list of bands that should have beat out Spin Doctors, Nirvana, and Bush. And there were A LOT. It was the ’90s after all. When everyone and their plaid-clad brother started a garage band.
