Rapper Prodigy Of Mobb Deep Has Passed Away At The Age Of 42

According to CNN, Rapper Prodigy, one half of the influential hip hop duo Mobb Deep has died, according to a co-author on one of his books, Kathy Iandoli.

He was 42.

A cause of death has not been released, but the rapper had been hospitalized for complications caused by sickle cell anemia prior to his death, Iandoli told CNN.

Prodigy brought a no-nonsense personality and a vivid eye for detail to his lyrics, brutal evocations of cruel street life in the Queensbridge housing projects that were sometimes achingly poetic: “I put my lifetime in between the paper’s lines,” he rapped on “Quiet Storm,” one of Mobb Deep’s most memorable songs.
