If this is really the last one, they’re going out on top.
Is Gregg really gonna hang it up??
Following the announcement that Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes are leaving at the end of this year, Allman decides to retire the band.
Haynes first joined the band 25 years ago; Trucks has been a member for 15 years.
Their shows kick off March 7; plus, they have a bunch of archival releases coming out.
Instead of doing an album of duets, on “Shout!,” Gov’t Mule took a novel approach, removing Warren Haynes’ vocals from the record and replacing them with an all-star cast of singers like Dr. John, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Dave Matthews, Steve Winwood and Elvis Costello.
All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman” will feature a lineup of major stars paying tribute to the Allman Brothers Band’s leader.
Mountain Jam, held at Hunter Mountain in New York, is curated by guitarist/singer Warren Haynes, who is front man of Gov’t Mule, a member of the Allman Brothers Band, and a solo artist.
Warren Haynes keeps a busy schedule: He’s one-half of the guitar team in the Allman Brothers Band, he leads his own group Gov’t Mule, he has a solo band, and he occasionally plays solo acoustic shows.
The most surprising thing about the tour is that it hadn’t happened before now. There was clearly a respect and a bond between the two bands. It’s truly a co-headlining affair: The Allmans played first, whereas the prior night at Long’s Island’s Nikon At Jones Beach, they closed the show.
